A castle that has survived the centuries

Less than an hour's drive from our Best Western Signature Collection Le Maxime hotel, discover one of the jewels of Burgundy's heritage.

Built in the 6th century, the Château d'Epoisses is a witness to the history of France, from the Middle Ages to the Restoration and the French Revolution.

Protected by a double enclosure of fortifications, the building surrounded by moats was in turn enlarged, embellished but also partly demolished.

Classified as a Historic Monument since 1992, this Renaissance-style royal castle is well worth a visit.

 

A magnificent park

During your visit to the Château d'Époisses, don't miss a stroll through the wooded park, which combines a rose garden, formal gardens, an English garden and flowerbeds.

From Easter to All Saints' Day, the air is filled with a symphony of colours and sweet scents.

The Queen of the Franks, the Dukes of Burgundy, Louis de Bourbon (Prince de Condé), the Marquise de Sévigné... all these famous people have one thing in common: they lived in the Château d'Epoisses.

Opening hours of the Château d'Époisses

To visit the Château d'Époisses and its grounds:

• All year round from 9am to 6pm: free visit of the castle exteriors.
• Price: 2€, free for children under 18.
• From 1 July to 31 August, every day except Tuesday (10am-12pm and 3pm-6pm): guided tour of the interior of the castle. Prices: 10€ from 10 years old, 5€ from 10 to 16 years old, free for children under 10 years old.
